Our Story

DenSon Farm started with two dreamers in a small house and a growing family of girls. We dreamed of having space to roam, a farm with rolling fields, a long tree-lined driveway leading to a sweet farmhouse, a pure and untouched place where family and friends could relax, celebrate, and enjoy.

As our daughters grew, the dream of someday seemed further away, not closer, as raising our family was more important than anything else. From that small starter house came two more homes, and life got easier. We asked our middle daughter, a realtor, to find land for our forever home. She found a unique property for sale and convinced us to visit on a whim. Seeing the pictures online, we weren’t sure what to expect, but she was curious and we wanted an excuse to visit.

We drove from our home in a Cincinnati suburb called Loveland to the picturesque country fields, passing the Plain Folk Music Café, which would soon become our new downtown. Just a mile away, we arrived at the tour that would change our lives, and the first look at the rest of our lives. Our daughter had unknowingly taken us to the place that lived in our hearts as “Someday…”

The barns, the farmhouse, the horse pastures all began to fit those late-night talks and dreams. Despite the property being untouched since the 70’s, the white farmhouse was breathtaking. Outside, we could feel the history in the old barns, hand-hewn beams surrounding us… it was all love at first sight!

When we excitedly shared the news with our daughters that our dream had finally come true, we eagerly began discussing ways to involve our family and friends. We wanted to create opportunities for everyone to unwind and come together. Our vision was to create a place for strengthening existing connections but also to forge new ones, and it was then that one of our daughters had an inspired idea. Embracing the value we placed on family and the gathering of loved ones from near and far, she proposed inviting those embarking on their own journey of starting a family. “Why not host weddings on the property?” she suggested.

… and so DenSon Farm became a dream fulfilled …

Welcome to the farm!

History of the Farm

  • 1803 Thomas Jefferson granted the land on which the farm resides to: Richard Taylor, a captain in the continental navy who fought for Virginia in the American Revolution. The land was part of the Virginia military Survey.

  • 1847 DenSon Farm began as one of the first structures in the area with the Silo Barn built. Farmers used this barn as a hub to thrash wheat grown in the area and was designed with a swing beam instead of a center beam to allow wagons to turn around.

  • 1907 The Porch Barn was built to house livestock and the expanding farm. There were seven stalls and two hay lofts to store and care for the horses and cattle at the farm.

  • 1970’s Two wings were built on the sides of the original farmhouse. They updated the house to have a large kitchen and mud room with sprawling red and black laminate.

  • 1980’s By the 1980’s DenSon farm was a state of the art thoroughbred farm. There was a modern camera system installed in the stalls to watch the foals in the stalls to ensure their good health.

  • 1999 La Prada was born, and she is the last remaining remnant of the horse farm still residing in the pasture today.

  • 2000’s Prada begins her racing career and takes firsts at Mountaineer race track and Beulah Park. She retires in 2004 to our pastures after three first place finishes and $44,454 in lifetime earnings. She now has the well deserved rest she needs living in her pasture with her daughter Josie.

  • 2020’s DenSon Farm is purchased in 2021 with a dream of restoring the property to its former glory.
